Climate Resilience Awareness Kiosks Project

The Wharf District Council (WDC) has made Climate Resilience one of its central priorities, developing a comprehensive, multi-year program that includes informed planning, community protecting education, and neighborhood-based action.
We are committed to working on projects that ensure the managing of flood risks; protecting one of Boston’s most important waterfront neighborhoods; and generating public awareness of the impact of Climate Resilience.
WDC’s Climate Resilience program is made possible thanks to the support of and strong working relationship with our City of Boston and Commonwealth of Massachusetts elected officials, the City of Boston’s Office of Climate Resilience, and the Wharf District community and WDC members.
In May 2026 we implemented the Neighborhood Awareness Kiosk Project, installing free-standing kiosks outdoors in four locations: Rose Kennedy Greenway (near the Walk to the Sea), New England Aquarium (front plaza), Chiofaro Company's Harbor Garage (on Atlantic Avenue and India Row), and Christopher Columbus Park.
These four-sided kiosks bring attention to the threat of climate change in our area and provide information including a visual representation of future sea level rise in key locations.
The kiosks display a resiliency response to the projected 100-year stormwater elevations for 2030, 2050, and 2070, based on scientific modeling conducted by ARUP and the Woods Hole Group. They demonstrate where flooding could occur if measures are not implemented, as well as highlighting ongoing opportunities for resilience efforts.
The program’s objectives are to educate the community and the visiting public on the impact of climate change on this Boston Harbor neighborhood; proposed flooding protection; and a QR code to learn more and get on a mailing list.
The four kiosks can be found in prominent, heavily traveled locations, and are visible to residents, workers, and visitors. They were put in place in early May and will remain in place to November 2026.
This is about making the future visible and empowering people to participate in shaping it. Climate resilience requires science-based initiatives and public engagement. These kiosks bring both together.
