The Wharf District Council leadership team makes it a point to meet regularly with state and local policymakers, ensuring you hear our community’s voice. Over the past several months, we’ve been honored to meet with our government's policymakers, communicate our vision, and discuss how we can work together to better our community, city and state.
Building Partnerships with Key Leaders
Our conversations with Senator Nick Collins and Boston Mayor Michelle Wu. These conversations focused heavily on our District’s climate resilience planning efforts — from flood protection strategies to sustainable infrastructure investments — and how we can align them with broader legislative priorities.
Testifying for Resilience Before the Legislature
On September 2, 2025, our representative Norm Meisner delivered testimony before the Joint Committee on Environment and Natural Resources during a hearing focused on climate change, energy, and environmental justice.
This hearing brought together community leaders, environmental advocates, and legislators to consider a wide range of important pieces of legislation — including bills about strengthening climate adaptation funding, promoting clean energy solutions, and protecting environmental justice communities.
Norm’s remarks centered on the pressing challenges facing urban waterfront districts and conveyed specific policy recommendations that would support our efforts. By informing policymakers directly about the realities of climate risk — and the policy frameworks needed to address them — we hope to influence long-term support for resilient infrastructure and nature-based solutions.
Why This Work Matters
These regular meetings and legislative engagement opportunities are more than just visibility — they’re foundational to our District’s future. Through direct conversations and formal testimony, we’re building bridges between local priorities and city-, state-, and federal-level decision-making, ensuring that investment in resiliency is prioritized and that urban districts like ours remain equitable, livable, and prepared for inevitable climate realities.
Stay tuned for updates on these ongoing conversations — and for opportunities to get involved. Together, we can shape a resilient future for our community, today and for generations to come.
