Summary
At the Wharf District Council meeting in February 2026, Executive Director Susanne Lavoie opened the sessions and updates were shared on public safety, upcoming events, and climate resiliency efforts. Officer Mustacchio from Boston Police Department District A-1 reported that there have been no major incidents in the area and that overall crime continues to decline. However, noise complaints have risen significantly in recent years. Police presence in the district has increased, and construction work is restricted to reasonable hours unless there is an emergency. A detailed summer public safety strategy will be presented at a future meeting to prepare for the large number of visitors expected.
Guest speaker Dusty Rhodes of Conventures, Inc. presented details about Sail Boston 2026, an international tall ships event scheduled for July 11–16 that will bring about 50 ships from around the world and large crowds to Boston. The event will include free public activities such as the Parade of Sail, ship tours, a festival, fireworks, and a crew parade, and will coincide with FIFA-related activities happening in the city. Winter and community announcements also included new programming on the Rose Kennedy Greenway, seasonal installations at Christopher Columbus Park, and community events hosted by local leaders.
Council members also provided updates on climate resiliency planning for the Wharf District. Norm Meisner explained that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the City are reviewing two flood-mitigation approaches, while additional studies are underway to address stormwater runoff and property ownership along the waterfront. John Larivee reported progress on a public education initiative that will install five outdoor kiosks at key locations—including the Greenway, Custom House, the New England Aquarium, Faneuil Hall Marketplace, and Christopher Columbus Park—by April. These displays will inform visitors about flood risks and the district’s ongoing resiliency planning ahead of major summer events.
