Summary

The April 21, 2026 Wharf District Council meeting covered several neighborhood updates spanning public safety, new businesses, and a major upcoming event. Officer Mustacchio reported that first-quarter crime statistics showed strong improvement, with violent crime down 40% and most other categories declining. A highlight was that police foot patrols increased dramatically — from 52 to 230 — which likely contributed to the positive trend. On the business side, Tree House Brewing Company presented plans for a seasonal outdoor beer garden at Faneuil Hall Marketplace (open daily through September, capacity 600), and a new full-service American and Italian restaurant at 125 Broad Street sought a liquor license upgrade. Verizon also proposed a concealed rooftop antenna installation at 36–44 Broad Street to improve wireless coverage.

Sail Boston 2026 was a major agenda item, with organizers detailing the return of tall ships to Boston from July 11–16 to commemorate America's 250th anniversary. More than 60 ships are expected, with fireworks on July 11 and 15, a parade along the waterfront, and public viewing from multiple locations. Attendees were advised of temporary traffic impacts including no parking on the east side of Atlantic Avenue and road closures on Long Wharf and East India Row on July 11. Congressional candidate Patrick Roath also introduced himself, highlighting progressive priorities including housing, healthcare, and climate.

The meeting wrapped up with community updates from Villa México Café, which announced expanded hours, outdoor seating, and a new beer and sangria license starting in May, and from WDC Treasurer Marc Margulies, who noted that climate resilience kiosks will be installed on April 30 at four waterfront locations. The City also announced overnight road resurfacing work beginning April 26 on several major streets including Atlantic Avenue, Congress Street, and State Street, with residents advised to expect temporary parking restrictions and some noise.

The Wharf District Council held votes on three items during the Executive Session, approving all of them unanimously. Letters of support were granted for the Tree House Brewing Company beer garden at Faneuil Hall Marketplace, the Verizon wireless antenna installation at 36–44 Broad Street, and the new restaurant at 125 Broad Street seeking to transfer and upgrade its liquor license to cover all alcoholic beverages.
